It is with profound sorrow that AABPS – American Association of Bangladeshi Pharmaceutical Scientists announce the passing of Professor A B M Faroque, a towering figure in pharmacy education and public health in Bangladesh, who left this world on August 13, 2026, at 8:07 PM (New York time). He served as former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and former Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Dhaka. He was 74 years old.
Janaza and Burial:
His body will be taken to Mukarram Bhaban, Department of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, around noon.
Namaz-e-janaza will take place ba’ad Zuhr at the DU Central Mosque.
He is planned to be buried at Mirpur Buddhijibi Graveyard, with a third janaza before burial.
For decades, Professor Faroque stood before generations of students, shaping minds and careers with lectures marked by clarity, reason, and genuine passion for his craft. But his influence reached far beyond the lecture hall. As convener of the subcommittee that helped draft Bangladesh’s National Drug Policy 2016, he became one of the country’s most trusted voices in health policy — a tireless advocate for the belief that access to quality medicine is not a privilege but a basic right. He fought for stronger pharmacist oversight in drug administration, for decisive action against counterfeit medicine, for the expansion of pharmaceutical research, and for the establishment of hospital and community pharmacy practice as pillars of the nation’s healthcare system.
He was a fearless public voice. His research into food and milk safety stirred national conversation and pushed uncomfortable but necessary questions into the open. In every arena, whether academic or public, Professor Faroque championed one enduring conviction: that the pharmacist is not a peripheral figure but an essential guardian of safe and effective medicine.
He leaves behind a grieving family, devoted colleagues, and countless students and admirers across Bangladesh’s pharmacy and public health community — all who were touched, in some way, by his teaching, his conviction, and his tireless service to a profession he helped build and elevate.
He will be remembered not only for what he taught, but for the standard he set — a life devoted to knowledge, integrity, and the wellbeing of others.
