Young Scientist
Support Fund

The Young Scientist Support Fund (YSSF) is a signature initiative of the American Association of Bangladeshi Pharmaceutical Scientists (AABPS), designed to support and encourage future pharmaceutical professionals of Bangladeshi origin. Through the YSSF, AABPS aims to recognize academic excellence, support promising research, and facilitate professional growth for students engaged in pharmaceutical sciences. 

AABPS will use YSSF grant to serve two groups:

Bangladeshi-origin graduate, post-graduate students in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences or related fields, such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology etc., currently studying in North America and a member of AABPS.

Bangladeshi undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate students in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences or related fields, such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology etc., currently studying in Bangladesh and a member of AABPS.

Objectives

The objectives of the YSSF are to:

  • Recognize and reward academic and research excellence in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences
  • Provide targeted financial support to emerging scholars
  • Strengthen AABPS’s mission of fostering a global network of Bangladeshi scientists
  • Create a platform to inspire leadership, innovation, and international collaboration

Eligibility

North America-Based Students

Eligibility: Bangladeshi-origin students or Bangladeshi descendants currently enrolled in North American academic institutions in:

  • Undergraduate program (B.S. or equivalent)
  • Graduate programs (M.S. or Ph.D.)
  • Post-doctoral programs
  • Professional degree programs (Pharm.D.)

Bangladesh-Based Students

Eligibility: Bangladeshi citizens studying full-time in Bangladesh in:

  • Undergraduate (Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology or discipline related to Pharmaceutical Sciences)
  • Graduate (Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology or discipline related to Pharmaceutical Sciences) 
  • Minimum CGPA Requirement: 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Other Requirements: Must have completed at least one semester (for a semester based program) or one academic year and not be receiving any other major AABPS scholarships in the same cycle.

Possible Award Categories

  • Undergraduate Student Research Award
  • Graduate/professional Student Research Award
  • Postdoctoral Research Award
  • Early Career Research Award (Within 5 years academic assignment)
  • Travel Award (conference participation)

Note: The number and distribution of awards will be determined annually based on budget availability and the quality of applications.

Application Requirements

  • All applicants must submit the following:

    • Completed YSSF Application Form
    • Copy of Official Academic Transcript      
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Personal Statement (max 500 words) describing:
      • Career goals
      • Academic/research interests
      • How the YSSF award will support their growth
    • Minimum two letters of recommendation from research advisor, PI, department head or from any other faculty
    • Optional: research abstract, poster, publication list

Selection Criteria

  • Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the AABPS YSSF Evaluation Committee based on the following criteria:

    • Academic performance and scholarly achievements
    • Clarity and impact of personal statement
    • Research potential (where applicable)
    • Letter of recommendation quality
    • Financial status (e.g., other funds/scholarship)
    • Alignment with AABPS’s vision and goals

    Final decisions are subject to approval by the AABPS Executive Committee.

Use of Funds

  • Awarded funds may be used for:

    • Tuition and academic related expenses
    • Research-related materials or activities
    • Conference registration and travel

Awardee Obligations

  • Recipients must:

    • Submit a brief impact report (200–300 words) within six months after the completion of the purpose of the award     . Failure to submit the report will disqualify for any other awards in future. 
    • Consent to AABPS to use their name, photo, and summary in newsletters or the website
    • Acknowledge AABPS support in relevant presentations or publications (if applicable)

Ethics and Compliance

  • Any form of misinformation or plagiarism in the application will lead to immediate disqualification and permanent ineligibility.

Oversight and Governance

  • This policy is administered by the AABPS Awards and Grants Committee and reviewed annually by the Executive Committee. Feedback from awardees and committee members will be used to refine future YSSF cycles.
